Numbered cards (2–10) are worth their face value. Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are all worth 10. An Ace (A) can be worth either 1 or 11, whichever is more favorable for your hand.
Get a hand total closer to 21 than the dealer's without going over. Exceeding 21 is called a "Bust" and you lose immediately.
Each player and the dealer receive two cards. Both of your cards are dealt face-up. The dealer has one card face-up and one face-down (the hole card).
